1. What is a totem and what is it used for?
This medicine is used to treat and prevent iron deficiency, especially during pregnancy, if you do not get enough iron from food.
2. Before taking a totem
Tot'hema should not be used:
- if the cause of anemia is not iron deficiency;
- if you have an excess of iron (such as normochromic or hyperchromic anemia, such as thalassemia), refractory anemia due to anemia or bone marrow failure;
- if you have an increase in the accumulation of iron in the body (eg haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis) or if there is a problem with the utilization of iron (eg lead-induced anaemia, sideroacrestic anaemia).

For children and adolescents
It is intended for infants, children and adolescents from 1 month.
Other Medicines and Totem
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. It is especially important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the medicines listed below.
· Iron salts for injection (used to treat anemia).
· Tetracyclines (antibiotics), penicillamine (a medicine used to treat metabolic disorders), levodopa and methyldopa (used to treat Parkinson's disease).
· Cholestyramine (used to lower cholesterol), magnesium, aluminum and calcium salts and their oxides and hydroxides (medicines used to reduce the acidity of gastric juices) and calcium and magnesium supplements.
· Oral bisphosphonates (medicines for osteoporosis).
· Quinolone antimicrobial agents
· Thyroxine (used to treat thyroid problems).
· Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain and inflammation (eg ibuprofen).
· Substances that bind iron such as phosphates, phytates or oxalates.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
This medicine contains sucrose and liquid glucose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
3. How to use a totem
The drug is administered orally.
The solution is taken diluted with sweetened or unsweetened water or another soft drink.
It is best to take the solution before a meal, but the time and dose may need to be adjusted depending on how the drug is tolerated by the gastrointestinal tract.
